Alexander "Sandro" Casalini, 88

STRUTHERS ­- Alexander "Sandro" Casalini, 88, passed away peacefully, Sunday evening, Aug. 10, 2014, surrounded by his loving daughter, Mary Sue Bowers; his beloved son, John Rocco Casalini; and caring grandson, James Alexander Bowers, who resided with his grandfather in the later years of his life.
Alex was born July 21, 1926, in Effingham, Ill., the son of Giovanni and Maria (Bonfadini) Casalini.
He was a purchasing agent with Youngstown Cabinet and McRoyal Industries. He was a member of St. Nicholas Church, the ITAM Post No. 3, and was a member of the Fruit Street Reunion committee. In his early years, Alex was another Youngstown product who turned to professional boxing, competing in the lightweight division. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. Alex proudly served his country during World War II, with the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany.
His wife, Susan (Zappia) Casalini, passed away on Nov. 21, 1970.
Alex was the rock of his family and will always be remembered lovingly by his family and friends.
He leaves behind his sister, Theresa (Darrell) Copping of Fort Myers, Fla.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Gordon; and a brother, Aldo Casalini.
There are no calling hours.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Covington Nursing Home in East Palestine for the compassionate care of Alex.
