Luz Maria Cruz, 95
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 1 0:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Spanish Evangelical Church for Mrs. Luz Maria Cruz who departed this earth peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman. The Rev. Rolando Rojas will be officiating. Luz, the daughter of Matilde Jusino and Santos Lugo, was born in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico at the Hacienda San Francisco on November 28, 1918. Luz was a homemaker who dedicated her time to church and her family. She married Teodoro Cruz on May 28, 1934. She had been a faithful member of Spanish Evangelical Church for 60 years and a foster parent from 1973 to 1980. Luz was most happy when she was surrounded by her family. She was very proud of her children and loved spending time with them and their families. She enjoyed cooking for holiday celebrations, loved gardening, listening to music and singing, and, even though she only had a third grade education, she was an avid reader. She graduated with honors from the Bible Institute of the Assemblies of God; something she was very proud of. When the family got together for family reunions in the summer, Luz would participate in playing volleyball, hiking and camping. She loved to laugh and tell funny stories whenever she was with her family. Besides her mother, who passed away before her 5th birthday, and her father who passed away in 1975, Luz was preceded in death by her husband who passed away in 1980, a son, Angel, who passed away at 13 months in Puerto Rico in 1950, and a grandson, Victor, who passed away in 1995. Luz will be lovingly remembered by her surviving children Rafael (Linda Pacheco) of Youngstown, Maita Valentin (Jose' - deceased) of Youngstown, Jose' Ramon (Carmen Milagros Silva) of Campbell, Teodoro, Jr. (Ann Flores) of Youngstown, Wilfredo (Janice Totin) of Canfield, Orlando (Milagrosa Jimenez) of Canfield, Victor Manuel (Mary Calderon) of Youngstown, Maritza Maldonado (Israel) of Campbell, Brunilda Reyes (Jose') of Campbell, Lynette Arroyo (Robe1to) of Youngstown, and Roman of Boardman. She also leaves behind her loving granddaughter, Sarah Cruz-Banks (Kenneth) of Youngstown, who she raised as her own child, 37 grandchildren, 96 great grandchildren, 50 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Friday, October 3, 2014 from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Spanish Evangelical Church, 369 Keystone Avenue, Youngstown. The family wishes to thank Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman and Hospice of the Valley for the wonderful care they gave Luz and the courtesy they patiently extended to her family.
