Obituary for James R. Davanzo

James R. Davanzo, 83

YOUNGSTOWN – James R. Davanzo, 83, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015.
James was born on March 11, 1931, in Youngstown, the son of Antonio and Maria (Magliocia) Davanzo.
James was a 1950 graduate of East High School. He courageously served his country in the U.S. Army, 4th Division Infantry Regiment, special police patrol, during the Korean War. James retired after 30 years from the City of Youngstown, where he worked as a maintenance man in the building and grounds department of City Hall. He then went on to work for The Burdman Group Inc. and the Ohio Department of Transportation rest stops on Route 11 as a supervisor.
He was a member of St. Angela Merici (Sacred Heart) Church. James enjoyed watching football, baseball and boxing. He also enjoyed traveling, swimming and listening to the Three Tenors. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
James will be lovingly remembered by his wife, the former Jean Ann (Calabria) Davanzo, whom he married June 4, 1955; four sons, Jim Davanzo Jr. of Youngstown, Rick (Brenda) Davanzo of Poland, Anthony Davanzo of Austintown, and Joe (Dawn) Davanzo of Austintown; daughter Lori (Larry) Zarlengo of Lordstown; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister Katherine Young of New Middletown; and brother Dan Davanzo of Poland.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson Frank Davanzo; and three brothers, Tony, Frank and John Davanzo.
There will be a memorial Mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at St. Angela Merici (Sacred Heart) Church, 400 Lincoln Park Drive in Youngstown.
The Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman, have the honor of handling the arrangements for James.
