Obituary for Agnes M. Diorio

Agnes M. Diorio
Agnes M. Diorio, 93

BOARDMAN – Friends will be received on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home at 4442 South Ave., Boardman, for Agnes M. Diorio, 93, who passed away early Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth’s Boardman Health Center surrounded by her family. A prayer service will be held on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Dominic’s Church at 10 a.m., 77 East Lucius Ave., Youngstown.
Agnes, affectionately known as “Gram,” was born on Oct. 2, 1921, in Youngstown. She was the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Puskar) Borzick.
Agnes was a 1940 graduate of Springfield Local High School in New Middletown. During World War II, she was a part of the defense industry, which supported the war efforts. She also used her organization and math skills to excel as a book keeper for a local business for several years.
Agnes married her loving husband, Joseph, on July 29, 1950, at St. Dominic’s Church, where she was a parishioner and member of the Alter Rosary Society. They were married for 63 years. Together they had daughter Deborah Zajac (late Eugene) and son Gary Diorio (Anna), all from Poland.
She also leaves to cherish her memory, grandchildren Eric (Elisa) Zajac, Lauren Zajac, Natalie Zajac, Jenna Diorio and Melanie Diorio; and great-grandchildren, Reagan Lauchner and Kendall Zajac. She will also be missed by her nieces, nephews and close friends.
Agnes was the ultimate homemaker, devoted mother and loving grandmother. She spent many years babysitting her three grandchildren and was a very significant part of their lives. She enjoyed having family get-togethers and cooking her signature dishes. “The Farm” was the nickname of her childhood home where she grew up with her parents and siblings. It was later transformed into a family gathering place where she would spend every summer surrounded by her large family and lifelong friends by the swimming pool.
She was a bingo enthusiast and spent many days “out the farm” playing pinochle with her siblings, and later nieces and nephews. She was the heart and backbone of the entire Borzick clan. She will be lovingly remembered for her generosity, kindness, intelligence and quick-witted spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John, Eddie, Albert and Paul Borzick; her sisters, Veronica Greco, Margaret Hian and Elizabeth Novotny; and her son-in-law, Eugene Zajac Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Agnes Diorio Nursing Scholarship Fund to be used for students at the Youngstown Campus of Mercy College. Donations in her name can be sent directly to The Mercy College of Ohio Foundation, c/o Mercy College, 2221 Madison Ave., Toledo, OH 43604.
