Alice M. Zidian, 89

YOUNGSTOWN - Alice M. Zidian, 89, formerly of Coitsville Township, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at The Inn at Christine Valley, Nottingham Memory Care Unit, surrounded by her loving family.
Alice was born in Youngstown, on Oct. 5, 1925, a daughter of Albert and Alice (MacDonald) Stauffer.
She was a graduate of South High School. Alice attended Youngstown Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. After graduation, she worked at South Side Hospital as an orthopedic nurse, and then at Truscon Steel, as an industrial nurse. Alice worked alongside her husband, John, to help build and establish The John Zidian Company (Gia Russa Italian Foods).
Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, John J. Zidian Jr., whom she married on April 8, 1948; her parents; and a grandson, Sean Manning.
Alice will be sadly missed by her six children, John L. (Mij) Zidian of Murryville, Pa., Ronald (Rita) Zidian of Leechburg, Pa., James (Kathleen) Zidian of Boardman, Thomas (Jill) Zidian of Poland, and Mary (Bill) Thompson and Shirley (Edgar) Manning, both of Boardman; 13 grandchildren, Kimberly (Larry) Herold of Chicago, Michelle (David) Gross of Poland, Bill (Tara) Thompson Jr. of Boardman, Brian (Rachel) Thompson of Colorado Springs, Colo., John F. Zidian of Pittsburgh, Amy Zidian of St. Augustine, Fla., Matthew Zidian of San Francisco, Kevin (Hillary) Thompson of Westerville, Nora Zidian of Pittsburgh, Kelley and Colleen Manning of Boardman, Jillian and Tommy Zidian of Poland; and four great-grandchildren. Alice will also be missed by her sisters-in-law, Shirley Zidian, who was like a sister, of Poland and Georgia Zidian of Boardman; her brother-in-law, Ronald Zidian of Lancaster; and her many nieces and nephews.
Alice enjoyed shopping with her daughters, dancing, traveling, reading, and spoiling her grandchildren. She loved attending all of her grandchildren's many activities. Alice enjoyed cooking and entertaining her large family. Alice was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Church, where she and her late husband, John, were very active, a member of the Youngstown Area Grocers Association Ladies Auxiliary, Cub Scout Den Mother, and a member of the Youngstown Hospital Nurses Association.
There will be funeral services at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Charles Borromeo Church, with the Rev. Patrick Manning celebrating the Mass for Alice.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
Alice’s family would like to thank the staff at The Inn at Christine Valley and the staff of Hospice of the Valley for their wonderful care and compassion during her time with them.
