John D. Ondomisi, 69

CANFIELD – There will be a funeral service at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Boardman, for John D. Ondomisi, 69, who passed away Saturday morning, May 2, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born May 9, 1945, in Youngstown, the son of John and Marie (Miller) Ondomisi.
John was a Youngstown police officer, retiring as a sergeant in 2010. He was a graduate of The Rayen School and of Youngstown College. He was a member of St. Charles Church, the F.O.P. Lodge for 38 years, and the Mahoning Valley Corvette Club. John won numerous awards with his Corvette. He drove his ‘77 Corvette, that he restored himself, from California.
He enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially loved his time with his two granddaughters, always bringing them to breakfast and lunch. John faithfully served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War while stationed in Germany.
John will always be remembered lovingly by his wife, Elaine (Gennaro) Ondomisi, whom he married May 29, 1976; his daughter, Jennifer (Robert) Leonard of Canfield; his two granddaughters, Giuliana and Francesca; and his brother-in-law, David (Barbara) Gennaro and their children of Boardman.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his in-laws, Joseph “Blackie” and Frances Gennaro.
Friends may call on Tuesday, May 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, where John’s dedicated service to our country will be further recognized by the great men from the V.F.W. Post 9571 Honor Guard of Ellsworth.
