Youngstown – There will be a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Basilica for John A. Paulette, 88, who passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, June 23. John was born Dec. 7, 1926 in Youngstown, the son of Biase and Matilda (Sforza) Paoletti. Those that knew John Anthony Paulette know what a people person he was. His passions were his family, friends, work, sports and politics. Always ready to step in to make a difference, tell a joke or put a smile on your face that was John. John’s work history included Cook Coffee as a salesman. John served as President of the Union while at Swedlow Plastics. He was owner of the Dairy Isle in Niles where he also co-owned the Rec Room and Skylight Banquet Room. John retired from the Ohio Turnpike as a toll collector. He was an activist in local politics, assisting many former and present politicians in their efforts to make change happen for people. He was a Third Degree Knight of The Knights of Columbus. He served on the advisory board of the Mill Creek Golf Course and the Austintown Beautification Committee. John was an avid sports fan, especially of The Ohio State Buckeyes and New York Yankees.He enjoyed golfing, football and boxing. John was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Basilica and Immaculate Heart of Mary. He faithfully served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII. John will be remembered lovingly by his wife of 66 years, Madeline (Demyen) Paulette, whom he married May 7, 1949; his son Bruce Paulette of Youngstown; his daughter Cheryl Paoletti of Newport Coast, California; his grandson, JohnMichael Jurgensen; son-in-law, Steve Jurgensen; a sister Margaret “Mitzi” Malvasi whom he respected and loved very much; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; his cherished friends and family of 8 couples who are referred to as “The Gang”, and his son’s 4 dogs, Jackson, Sable, Maggie, and Blue. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his in-laws, Louis and Katherine Demyen; a brother Thomas Piolata; and 3 sisters, Helen Podolsky, Lena Fata, and Lucille DiFrangia. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel Street in Youngstown. The Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman have been bestowed the honor and privilege of handling the funeral arrangements for John. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you and appreciation to Dr. Novak and everyone at Briarfield Manor, Shepherd of the Valley, and Hospice of the Valley for all of their care, prayers and support during John’s illness.
