Elizabeth “Betty” Tanferno, 85
STRUTHERS – Elizabeth “Betty” Tanferno, 85, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 6, 2015, at the Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born March 8, 1930, in Meadville, Pa., the daughter of Anthony and Victoria (Kupic) DeCapio.
Betty lived her life as a servant, constantly serving the Lord as a devoted Catholic, while caring for her family. She not only catered her famous “Betty Spaghetti,” but also her love and affection to many people, as well as pets.
Betty will always be lovingly remembered by her son, Thomas Sr. (Yvonne) Akers of Florida; daughter Theresa Tanferno of Struthers; grandchildren Thomas Jr. (Kristine) Akers of Youngstown, Laila (Justin) Green of Poland, and Carmen (Alyssa) Tanferno of Struthers; six great-grandchildren; her dearest friend, Iris Pike of Canfield; and several others who knew her as “Grandma Betty.”
Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her companion, Carmen R. Tanferno; and two children, James “Bidgie” Akers and Carmen Tanferno.
There will be funeral services at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2015, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick Church in Youngstown, with the Rev. Edward Noga celebrating the Mass for Betty. Friends may call today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Brian Palumbo, Dr. Tofil, the Hospice House, and others who provided kind and compassionate care for Betty.
