Rocco DiGennaro Sr.
Rocco DiGennaro Sr., 81

Youngstown- Rocco DiGennaro Sr., 81, passed away in his home on Tuesday, August 18, 2015. Rocco was born October 15, 1933 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, the son of Dominic and Mary (Panella) DiGennaro. Rocco graduated from New Castle High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army as a cook from 1954 to 1962. After leaving the military, Rocco joined Local 964 of the Laborers International Union of North America. He transferred to Laborers Local 125 upon marriage to his wife in 1960 and subsequently retired from there in 1991. He was a Gold card carrying member of the Union and an original member of the Local 125 Retiree Council. He remained active within the union until his death. Rocco is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Rose (Moronti) DiGennaro; his three sons, Rocco (Terri) DiGennaro Jr., Larry (Tracy) DiGennaro, and Joe (Laura) DiGennaro; his grandchildren, Victoria (Allan), Craig, Rocco, Deana, Alison, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Margaret, Kevin, Thomas, Grace, Jane, Charlie, and Henry; and his great-grandson, Grayson. Rocco was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rita; brother, Dominic; and grandson, Ryan. Rocco was a man of few words, but when he did speak, it was always worth listening to. Rocco was extremely involved with Local 125 and loved the union. He was an avid bowler and participated in a weekly league at Holiday Bowl. He also enjoyed gambling at various nearby casinos. Rocco was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and made an effort to attend as many events as possible that they participated in. He also loved the fact that he was a great-grandpa and proudly showed everyone pictures of his great-grandson. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today, August 20 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 21 at St. Luke Church in Boardman with Rev. Joseph A. Fata celebrating.
