Canfield –There will be a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2015 at Highway Tabernacle Church, 3000 S. Raccoon Road in Austintown with Pastor Kent Bell celebrating for Sergeant R. Brian Newhard, 38, who passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Brian was born January 16, 1977, in Youngstown, the son of R. Gary and Claudia (Stevens) Newhard. Brian was a loving and dedicated husband, father and police officer. He graduated from Youngstown State University in 2000 with a bachelor degree in criminal justice and communications. Brian was formerly employed as a sergeant with the North Jackson, Brookfield, and Goshen Police Departments and most recently as a sergeant with Mill Creek Metro Park Police Department. He was also a Mason, Ohio School Resource Officer, D.A.R.E. Instructor, member of the O.V.I. Drug Task Force, member of the Mahoning County Drug Task Force and Homicide, and the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office. Brian enjoyed going to the family hunting camp with his family and nephew, who referred to him as “Big Baby.” He also loved to sing and was a member of the bands “Plunge” and “Something Smith.” Brian will always be lovingly remembered by his wife, the former Jenny Wingard whom he married February 2, 2002; three children, Mitchell, Carter and Olivia; his beloved dogs, Bob and Buster; parents, Gary and Claudia Newhard of North Jackson; brother, Gary Allen Newhard of Austintown; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marty and Sharon Wingard. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Mary Newhard and maternal grandparents, Gerald T. and Mary Stevens. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 13 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman, and again from noon until the time of the funeral service on Monday, September 14 at the church.
