Robert “Bobby” Gatti Sr.

Youngstown-There will be funeral services at 9 a.m. on Friday, January 29 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Basilica with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio celebrating the Mass for Robert “Bobby” Gatti Sr., 83, of Youngstown, who transitioned into eternal rest early Sunday morning in the comfort of his home and loving family. Gatti was born August 25, 1932, a son of Perino and Giuseppina DiGiacomo Gatti of San Pietro Avellana (Campobasso), Italy. He was a 1951-52 East High graduate and was memorialized in 2005 by being inducted into the East High’s Athletic Hall of Fame for basketball and football. Gatti was also an all-star baseball and basketball player in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1952 to 1955, where he served at the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After completing his military duties, he worked and retired from Ohio Laborers’ Union Local 125. In 1980, Gatti married his “WIFE”, Diana Bacon at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Brier Hill. He was a small business owner throughout the 70’s and 80’s. In addition to being a passionate mechanic, he also served in building operations at Omega Laboratories for 17 years, retiring in 2015 due to sudden illness. Bobby worshipped at St. Anthony/Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Basilica where he was a faithful member. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, baby Carmel Gatti and Dora Gatti Labate; and one brother, James Gatti Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 35 years; three sons, Robert (Regina) Gatti Jr. of Hubbard, Lance Gatti and Dominic Gatti, both of Youngstown; a daughter, Claudine (Mark) Austalosh of Campbell; a sister, Carmel (Anthony) DeFelice of Poland; three grandchildren CaraMia Gatti, Katarina and Christina Austalosh; close family friend Dr. John Vitullo; dog-son Gizzington and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. The Gatti family extends their thanks to “Rachel” and the wonderfully caring nursing staff of Park Vista and St. Elizabeth Health Center’s Cardiac Unit.
