Obituary for Mary A. (Vivacqua) Mazzeo

Mary A. (Vivacqua) Mazzeo
Mary (Vivacqua) Mazzeo, 89

YOUNGSTOWN - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at St. Joseph Church in Austintown, with the Very Rev. Gregory F. Fedor celebrating the Mass for Mary (Vivacqua) Mazzeo, 89, who passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2016.
Mary was born July 31, 1926, in Youngstown, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Frank) Vivacqua.
She was a proud graduate of East High School, and later married John Mazzeo of Youngstown, who she was with until his death in 2003.
Mary will be fondly remembered for her love of family and the way she helped her mother raise her younger brothers after her father’s abrupt death in 1940. She went on to work at Strouss Department Store, where she developed her unique fashion style. Mary was not blessed with children, so she treated her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. Each have their special memories of time spent with “Aunt Mary,” from late night black and white movies, to lazy rides in her Cadillac, and trips to Handel’s for a scoop of ice cream. But, most of all, she will be remembered for hosting her annual Christmas Eve parties where, along with her mother, aunts and nieces, she prepared the traditional Italian feast. Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Antoinette, who passed at the young age of 5; her brother, George Vivacqua, and his wife, Irene, and her beloved Aunt Vicki (Frank) Buzzelli. Mary leaves behind three brothers, Joseph of Canfield, Donald (Isabel) of Austintown, and Anthony (Barbara) of Boardman; and many loving nieces and nephews. Friends may call at St. Joseph Church on Friday, Feb. 12, from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions be made to St. Joseph Church, 4545 New Road, Austintown, Ohio 44515.
