Obituary for James Boyd Greene

James Boyd  Greene
James Boyd Greene, 74, of Canfield, died Sunday, March 13, 2016 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boardman following a long illness. A true Mountaineer, he was born and raised in Wheeling, West Virginia and was the son of Boyd Greene and Anna Lee and Jess Jenkins. In his early years, Mr. Greene graduated from Linsly Military Academy in Wheeling, WV, in 1959 and from Bethany College in Bethany, WV in 1963 with bachelor's degrees in History and Economics. While at Bethany, he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. In 1966, he joined the United States Army Reserves. Mr. Greene worked as an account executive at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation in New York City and Wheeling from 1963 until 1972. Upon leaving that position, he was employed at Compco Industries as Chief Commercial Officer until his retirement in 2009. He was in charge of national sales, marketing and new product development for Compco. Active as a community and civic leader, Mr. Greene served on the Board of Trustees of Youngstown State University and the Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic. He previously served as the vice chair of the Youngstown YMCA Board of Trustees, president of the YSU Penguin Club, a trustee of the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, and served on the Trust Committee for Sister Jerome Corcoran Schools Inc. Mr. Greene was preceded in death by both of his parents and stepfather. He leaves his wife of 18 years, Lynn (Natale) Greene; his daughter, Holland (Chris) Heller; his son, John (Laurie) Greene; and his stepdaughter, Sara (Joseph) Reville; and the following grandchildren: Christopher and Katherine Heller, Emerson and Parker Greene, and the following step-grandchildren: Maren and Grace Reville, Devan, Logan, and Avery Willis. He is also survived by his cousin, Rose Ann (McCurdy) Jones. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 18 at 11 a.m. at the Boardman Branch of the YMCA. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to The Linsly School, 60 Knox Lane, Wheeling, WV, 26003, Youngstown State University, and the YMCA of Youngstown.
