Samuel “Sam” Marchionda, 80

YOUNGSTOWN – There will be a funeral service at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 9, at the Rossi Brothers Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Christ the Good Shepherd at St. Joseph the Provider Church, 633 Porter Ave. in Campbell, with the Rev. Michael Swierz celebrating for Samuel “Sam” Marchionda, 80, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.
Sam was born April 9, 1936, in Lowellville, the son of Paul and Anna (DeCicco) Marchionda.
Sam worked in construction for 33 years and was a member of the International Union of North America and the Laborers Local No. 935.
He was a member of Christ the Good Shepherd at St. Joseph the Provider Church.
Sam enjoyed cars, especially his 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass. He also loved to cook for his family and friends, making his famous wedding soup and spaghetti sauce. He enjoyed gardening and planting flowers in the springtime with his children and grandchildren whom he adored. He played “happy birthday” on his harmonica for every birthday in the family.
He was an avid Cleveland Indians and Browns fan.
Sam will always be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, the former Sally Kochmar, whom he married Nov. 28, 1959; four children, Linda Marchionda of Austintown, Bob Marchionda (Denise DeFrank) of Youngstown, Diane (Bob) DiLoreto of Boardman, and Lisa (Chris) DiLoreto of Canton; eight grandchildren, Janine (Sam), Shannon (Dan), Shauna, Krysti, Justin, Jenna, Alyssa, and Gia; four great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Cameryn, Khloe, and Teagan; and his beloved dog, Gigi.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert and Anthony Lucio, and Carmen Marchionda; and sister Mary Ann Surko.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
