Obituary for Richard J. "Rick" Parry

There will be funeral services at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Edward Church in Youngstown with the Very Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Siffrin celebrating the life of Richard "Rick" J. Parry, 59, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 21, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Rick was born October 16, 1956 in Youngstown, the son of Robert J. and Martha Rita (Cantwell) Parry. He was a 1975 graduate of Ursuline High School and attended Y.S.U. where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. Rick retired as a firefighter with the Liberty Fire Department after 35 years of service. He also worked as a delivery driver for R.L. Lipton for 25 years. He was a member of St. Edward Church, L.F.D. Local 2075, Teamsters Local 377 and the I.A.F.F. Rick's love and compassion for his wife and children was immeasurable. His main purpose in life was to be a good husband and father, which he achieved effortlessly. In his spare time, Rick enjoyed golfing, watching Notre Dame "Fighting Irish" whom he loved, working in his yard, and on his cars, both of which he kept impeccable. Rick will always be remembered lovingly by his wife, the former MaryAnn Slee, whom he married on October 30, 1982; son, Breen Parry of Charlotte; twin daughters, Ashley Parry of Avon Lake, and Allison (Chris) Diehl of Westlake; first grandchild soon to be born in May, Benjamin Richard Diehl; two sisters, Marianne Parry of Chicago, and Joan (Anthony) DeMain of Youngstown; twin brother Robert (Rita) Parry of Wexford; three nephews, Bobby, Ryan, and Kevin Parry; niece, Victoria DeMain; and his beloved cat, "Furry Murrey." He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center and the Radiology Department for the kind and compassionate care shown to Rick. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that monetary donations be made to the family to be distributed to Rick's favorite charities.
