Obituary for Dorothy R. (Scarazzo) Baltes

Dorothy R. (Scarazzo) Baltes
YOUNGSTOWN - A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman celebrating the life of Dorothy R. (Scarazzo) Baltes, 92, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 19, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. The service will be celebrated by her daughter-in-law, Pastor Joanne Baltes. Dorothy was born Dec. 20, 1923, in New Castle, Pa., the daughter of Nicola and Sara (Bordanoro) Scarazzo. She was a 1942 graduate of East High School and was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was a loving, kind hearted and giving individual whose entire life centered around home, family, and friends. Her husband, Thomas M. Baltes, whom she married on June 27, 1942, passed away on July 11, 1984. She was a member of the West Side and Calvary Baptist Churches. Dorothy was an avid roller skater and loved to dance and listen to music, especially Tom Jones, Lionel Richie, and Engelbert Humperdinck. She had a wonderful sense of humor. No matter what challenges she faced in her life, she never lost that sense of humor, like checking The Vindicator obituaries everyday while having her coffee to see if she was in it. Dorothy will always be remembered lovingly by her three children, Thomas R. Baltes, Colleen (Hank) Wasilchak, and Laurie (Richard) Scofinsky all of Youngstown; daughter-in-law Joanne Baltes of Canfield; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister Shirley (William) Schaffer of North Lima; and her beloved pet, Isabella. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard L. Baltes; and four siblings, Viola D'Avanzo, Marie Ponzani, Lawrence Scarazzo, and Virginia Paloci. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25 and again on Thursday, May 26 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Senior Independence Hospice and the Woodlands at Austinwoods Care Facility for their diligent care and concern.
