Obituary for Jerome A. "Jerry" Dietz

There will be a prayer service at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Basilica in Youngstown, with the Very Reverend Michael J. Cariglio Jr., celebrating the life of Jerome "Jerry" A. Dietz, 69, who passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, January 19, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born July 2, 1947, in Youngstown, the son of Charles J. and Josephine (Bettura) Dietz. He was a 1965 graduate of Liberty High School and then went on to courageously serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era, from 1967 to 1969. He worked for Hartford Machine Company until 1973, then became owner/operator of Crank'n Sleeve Shop in Girard for 40 years. Jerry was an active and faithful member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Basilica where he was a member of the festival committee, and was head chef of the spaghetti dinners. He was vice-president of Mahoning Valley "Olde" Car Club. Jerry enjoyed cooking, baking, cars, and going to the gym, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. His home was always open to everyone. Jerry will always be remembered lovingly by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 50 years, the former Linda Walley, whom he married on May 28, 1966; two sons, Mark Dietz of Austintown, and Frank (Jennifer) Dietz of Liberty; and four grandchildren, Cayla, Brianna, Brandon and Kayden Dietz. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 22 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman. Interment will take place at Belmont Park Cemetery where Jerry's dedicated service to our country will be further honored by the great men of V.F.W. Post No. 9571 of Ellsworth. Family and friends may visit the Book of Memories at www.rossifunerals.com to view this tribute and send condolences to Jerry's family.
