Obituary for Lorenzo DeSantis

Lorenzo DeSantis
Lorenzo DeSantis, 100, passed away peacefully early Friday morning Feb. 24, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 10, 1916, in Pacentro, Italy, the son of Joseph and Gaetana DeSantis. Lorenzo was a member of the Italian Army for ten years where he was a marksman and POW. He retired as a millwright from LTV Steel after 30 years of service. In his spare time, Lorenzo enjoyed watching cooking shows and puzzles, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family whom he loved and cherished. His wife, the former Velia Angelilli whom he married Jan. 26, 1938, passed away Nov. 4, 2008. Lorenzo will always be lovingly remembered by his 2 children, Flo (Paul) Harkey of Canfield, and Frank (Michelle) DeSantis of Fairlawn; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Shirley DeSantis; brother, Quintino DeSantis; and 2 sisters, Mary Carano, and Flora DiMascio. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, John DeSantis; sister, Angela Marchionda; and brother Frank DeSantis. Friends may call at St. Michael Church, 300 N. Broad St., in Canfield, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28 followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Terrence Hazel celebrating. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of the Valley, especially caregivers Georgia, Jim, Brittany, and Fran for the kind and compassionate care shown to Lorenzo. In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
