Bruce Todd Vrable, born in Youngstown, Ohio on Jan. 2, 1958, passed away peacefully in the presence of family at home on May 21, 2018. Bruce was a true warrior, dealing with his cancer with a courage that was undaunted throughout the past five years. Bruce was a simple man, leading a simple life. Along his journey of life, he had many friends and acquaintances that he had made throughout the years including his “surrogate” family at the Mahoning County Courthouse where he worked as a custodian throughout the past 30 years. Bruce enjoyed family picnics with his brothers and their wives, and loved visiting with his many nieces, nephews and their families. Bruce enjoyed Sunday afternoon car rides in the park; stopping afterwards for ice cream at Handels. Throughout the past three years, Bruce enjoyed going on family vacations down to Kiawah Island. He loved sitting on the beach, going into the ocean, and listening to his transistor radio. He loved going out afterwards to the many restaurants in the Charleston area, and became very fond of green fried tomatoes and calamari. Bruce’s true passion was memorabilia from the 60’s and 70’s, including an extensive record and DVD collection which included all the top hits and programs from that period of time. Bruce’s favorite holidays included Christmas and Halloween. He loved to decorate his home on those occasions. Bruce was a wonderful brother and throughout his illness, family relationships were strong and supportive. Throughout his many courses of chemotherapy, surgeries and radiation therapies, Bruce remained optimistic. He reinforced to us the value of looking at the cup half full, rather than half empty, more than ready to meet the challenge. Our brother Bruce will forever be our hero. We loved him dearly and will miss him, but most importantly Bruce will live in our hearts. We will continue to cherish his memories. Bruce will always be remembered lovingly by his two brothers, Dr. Thomas D. (Barbara) Vrable of Canfield, and Mark S. (Dianne) Vrable of Boardman; six nieces and nephews, Jason (Alisa) Vrable of Newport, North Carolina, Christopher (Amy) Vrable of Ladson, South Carolina, Allyson (Matthew) Zuzik of Jupiter, Florida, Keri Vrable of Boardman, Kelly Vrable of Durham, North Carolina, and Karla Vrable of Streetsboro; and four great-nieces and nephews, Jack, Sam, and Adalynn Vrable, and Annie Zuzik. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman, and again on Friday, May 25 from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at St. Michael Church in Canfield, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Terrance Hazel celebrating. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Antoine E. Chahine and staff, in addition to the Hospice of the Valley for their care and support.
