William J. “Bill” Ripple Sr. 83

Canfield – There will be a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman for William Ripple, 83, who passed away Monday, July 14, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born Jan. 9, 1931, in Lowellville, the son of James W. and Rose L. (Perrotta) Ripple.
He graduated from Lowellville High School and briefly attended Youngstown College. After graduation, Bill started as a stock boy at the Stambaugh-Thompson Company. On Dec. 1, 1951, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and graduated from leadership school as a corporal. Bill was stationed in Aschaffenberg, Germany, until he was honorably discharged in 1953.
He married the former Rena Mariani on June 11, 1955.
After his service, Bill returned to Stambaugh-Thompson, where he stayed for almost 30 years. He worked his way up the company, including time as the downtown store manager, branch supervisor for all 24 locations, and as the company’s director of logistics, warehousing, and traffic.
In 1980 he became a consultant for Cyclops Corp. of Pittsburgh, and when Armco Inc. purchased the company in 1986, he stepped up as their director of traffic until he retired in 1997. In 2002, he was hired as an independent consultant with Winner Steel Company of Sharon, Pa. Bill served as real estate agent and a member of the Youngstown Board of Realtors from 1960 to 1980.
He was honored as a 1990 member of the Who’s Who of America Executives. His favorite pastimes included fishing, boating and spending time with his family at their summer home on Lake Milton and their winter home in Jupiter, Fla. In 1955, Bill had a hole in one in league play at Doughton Golf Course in Hubbard.
Bill will always be lovingly remembered by his wife, Rena; two sons, William Jr. (Monica) and Robert (Susan); three grandchildren, Amanda, Andrew and Kyle; and beloved sister-in-law, Yolanda Ricci.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald.
Friends may call on Thursday, July 17, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests monetary contributions be made in Bill’s name to All Caring Hospice, 6715 Tippecanoe Road, Canfield, OH 44406.
Bill’s family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman for the kind and compassionate care shown to Bill.
