Obituary for Phyllis Lupo (Slaven)

Phyllis Lupo (Slaven)
Phyllis Ann Lupo, 79

LOWELLVILLE - Phyllis “Punky” Ann Lupo, 79, entered the gates of Heaven on Aug. 22, 2014, after a year-long illness.
Phyllis was born July 18, 1935, in Lowellville, the daughter of Leon and Vera (Schrader) Slaven.
Friends and family knew her by her childhood nickname, “Punky,” which was given to her by her father.
A graduate of Lowellville High School, Punky was a stay-at-home mother whose kitchen, heart, and arms were always open to whoever needed them. She was a gentle, kindhearted woman whose generous and giving spirit endeared her to whomever she met.
Punky did volunteer work in the schools, both when her children were young, and recently. She was very involved in her church, the Lowellville United Methodist Church, where she served on multiple committees, and where her presence will be missed both in the kitchen during the dinners she helped to cook, and most especially in the pew every Sunday. She enjoyed bowling, and reading historical books, especially those about the Civil War. She also loved to crochet, and there are many warm, comforting blankets she enjoyed giving as gifts.
Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, all of whom are left with loving, cherished memories of “Punky” or “Gram.” She gave her entire heart to her children, whom she loved deeply and without measure, and to her grandchildren, who meant the world to her, and she to them.
She is survived by two loving children, son Michael J. Lupo of Boardman, and daughter Elizabeth (Jeff) Hartman of Lowellville; and beloved grandchildren Sarah Hartman and Josh Hartman, along with his fiancée Michelle Grant, both also of Lowellville.
She is already deeply missed by a host of extended family and friends.
Her husband, Michael V. Lupo, who she married Aug. 17, 1954, passed away Sept. 3, 2011; she was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Robert Lupo; her parents; brothers George Slaven, Leon “Skip” Slaven, Norman “Buzz” Slaven and Eugene “Gene” Slaven; and sister Beverly Zarlingo.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Lowellville United Methodist Church, with Pastor Darlene Masetta and Carl West officiating the service for Phyllis.
Family and friends may visit from 10:30 a.m. until time of the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Phyllis’ name to the Lowellville United Methodist Church, 190 West Wood St., Lowellville, OH 44436.
The Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home has been bestowed the honor and privilege of handling the services for Phyllis.
