Obituary for Lawrence Thomas Hockicko

Lawrence Thomas Hockicko
Lawrence Thomas Hockicko, 56

Youngstown – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm. on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church (St. Matthias) in Youngstown with Rev. Martin Celuch for Lawrence Hockicko, 56, who passed away Monday evening, Dec. 8, 2014. Lawrence was born July 6, 1958 in Youngstown, the son of Lawrence and Olga (Markovich) Hockicko. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish and was a 1974 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. After graduation he was employed in the food industry for over thirty years before retiring from Giant Eagle in 2010.
Above everything else, Larry highly valued his family and numerous friends that he visited often and on a regular basis. He was an extremely friendly, kind, and compassionate man who always wore a smile on his face. Although faced with many challenges in his life, he chose to live his life in the “present moment” with loving kindness and gratitude. To Larry the “glass was always half full, never half empty” as he would lovingly greet everyone with a smile and warm hug and say “how are you, I’m doing good, I’m doing good!!”
Throughout his life Larry also enjoyed bowling, bingo, eating out in numerous fine food establishments, sailing on Lake Erie with “the godfather” and playing cards, especially with Aunt Lizzy.
He was a beloved family member who will be sadly missed by his devoted cousin “Godfather” Michael (Linda)Prokop, Goddaughter Audrey Prokop and her siblings Hannah and, Mikee, cousins Pat (JoAnn) Sveda, Jimmy Grabowski, Ellen Roby and Aunt Liz Prokop as well as a list of caring relatives too long to mention. Larry will also be missed by all of his many supportive friends including, but not limited to, MaryAnn Hudzik, Myrna Valentin, Margaret Stevenson, and Attorney Rob Rusu, Dina and staff.
Lawrence is home now, home for Christmas, home with the Lord, in heaven with his parents Lawrence and Olga; sister Annette Giancola and Rebecca and Jonathan, his niece and nephew.
Friends may call on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church from 12:00-1:00pm until the time of Mass. The Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman have been bestowed the honor and privilege of handling the arrangements for Lawrence.
