Donald E. D'Onofrio
LOWELLVILLE Donald E. D'Onofrio, 82, passed away Aug. 25, 2016, at Masternick Memorial Healthcare Center, surrounded by his family after a long bout with cancer.
"Don" was born June 29, 1934, in Lowellville, the son of Joseph and Josephine (Perotte) D'Onofrio.
He graduated from Lowellville High School in 1952. He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish in Lowellville, serving as an usher and was part of the group of men who gathered quarry stones for the building of the new church. He retired from Ohio Bell in 1994 and was a member of the CWA and Pioneers. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Don was a past president of the Mt. Carmel Society and member of their bocce league, was a member of the American Legion Post No. 247, officer of the Lowellville Business Association and vice president of the Lowellville Senior Citizens. Don enjoyed time spent with the Lowellville Car Cruz on Mondays, working the registration table and visiting with his many friends.
His love of community extended to volunteering his time spent and his generosity of donations to various local groups and organizations. He published the Lowellville Monthly booklet for over 40 years. Don also loved playing poker and slot machines. One of his favorite sayings was "family first." Don will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Delores Polis; two children, Dalene Lawless (William Scranton) and Donald (Carrie) D'Onofrio; three grandchildren, Samantha Lawless (Zack Mazurek), Kyle (Amber) Allen and Justin (Chasity) Allen; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Amara, and Tucker; soon to be great-granddaughter, baby Lucy; sister Loretta D'Onofrio; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, John, Patrick, Robert, William and Vincent; and two sisters, Ursula Moffet and Mary Fleming.
